Mamele’awt Qweesome Housing Society (MQHS) is a non-profit Housing Society that develops, manages and administers a wide range of subsidized housing options and support programs for those most in need within the Fraser Valley

Position Overview

The Resident Caretaker will reside within “The Waterstone” apartments in Chilliwack which is owned and operated by MQHS and is responsible for the general overseeing of the day-to-day care and management of the property, its units and the tenants residing within the building.

Responsibilities

  • Serve documents to tenants as per the Residential Tenancy Act and as directed by Tenant Relations Department
  • Collect and forward forms/requests to office i.e. repair requests, arrears agreement and incident reports
  • Show units to prospective tenants
  • Evaluate and mediate minor tenant complaints
  • Manage amenity room bookings
  • Monitor and report incidents to proper authorities
  • Coordinate and facilitate onsite tenant events/programs
  • Responsible for office operations, maintain quality curb appeal and model overall cleanliness
  • Schedule and assist in weekly, monthly and annual maintenance reviews
  • Conduct follow up inspections for maintenance work and repairs
  • Make recommendations for physical repairs, replacements and/or improvements
  • Conduct tenant move-in/move-out inspections
  • Coordinate and manage trades as required
  • Vacant suite turnover procedures i.e. cleaning of suite, evaluation of condition and clean and replace appliances, cabinetry, countertops etc. as required.
  • Perform light handyman repairs

Qualifications

  • Experience in related Property Management duties an asset
  • Building Service Worker Certificate would be an asset
  • Must reside onsite
  • Strong computer and administrative skills
  • Demonstrate good decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution skills plus ability for attention to details
  • Experience with Property Management software preferred
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with First Nations people and demonstrate cultural sensitivity
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • General knowledge of Residential Tenancy Act preferred
  • Building maintenance skills
  • Janitorial experience an asset
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds without difficulty
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Highly proficient organizational and multi-tasking skills along with good time management
  • Basic First Aid Certificate or willingness to achieve it.
  • Valid BC driver’s license and own vehicle
